How Long Until Symptoms of West Nile Virus Might Show?
Symptoms can show up as soon as 2 days or as late as 15 days or even possibly longer.
How Long Can Symptoms Last?
For most people who even notice it (95% never know they even had it) it usually lasts only a few days.
If in a rare case it develops into encephalitis or meningitis or other types of infections the symptoms can last for weeks.
If it’s a serious bout of WNV or one of its cause diseases, neurological effects, though rare, can be permanent.
If symptoms or general health seem to match those of WNV- even though there is no direct cure- it is important to see a doctor so he can run a battery of tests on you to be sure of what you have. (Similar conditions might be: Lyme disease, etc etc etc.
What about Re-infection?
It is the prevailing opinion (though not proven as far as I’ve read) that once we contact WNV we are immune to re-contracting the virus. For sure this can change if your body/ immune system is compromised or just not what it used to be.
